Provincial board member dies in Laguna shooting

A provincial board member and two more persons in his group were killed by suspected hired guns in San Pablo City, Laguna, Wednesday night.

The San Pablo City Police Office said Board Member Danny Yang, former village chieftain Manolo Barcenas and a certain Brando de los Santos died at the Pagamutang Panlalawigan ng Laguna. Jovy Lopez, a member of Yang's group and a certain Marc Edward Herrera were wounded in the shooting.

Police said the group was attending a fiesta celebration in Barangay Bautista when ambushed by five gunmen around 9:30 p.m.

Investigators said Yang's driver, Rommel Viterbo, was able to fire back and killed one of the assailants. Four of the gunmen escaped on foot after the shooting, police added.

Superintendent Raul Bargamento, San Pablo City police chief, said a task force has been formed to investigate the provincial board member's killing.

Bargamento said manhunt operations have been launched for the arrest of the four gunmen. With a report from Noel Alamar, radio dzMM
