Suspect in ex-Candelaria mayor's murder faces raps

CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna – Police filed a case of murder against one of the two suspects in the killing of former Candelaria Mayor David Emralino following his arrest in Batangas on Sunday.

Senior Superintendent Elmo Francis Sarona, Quezon police director, identified the suspect as Adorico De Sagun Ebora, 38, a resident of Barangay Libato, San Juan, Batangas.

Sarona said Ebora was arrested by the Task Group Emralino at Barangay Sampaga, Batangas City after being identified by two witnesses as one of the gunmen who shot Emralino in front of San Pedro Bautista Parish Church in Candelaria Quezon last July 26.

"The witness is very credible. He was just a few meters away from the triggerman when the suspect shot the former mayor, that’s why he clearly remembered the face of the killer,” Sarona told newsmen.

The suspect was brought to Quezon PPO, Camp Nakar , Lucena City for filing of appropriate charges before the Provincial Prosecutor’s Office of Quezon.

Chief Superintendent Perfecto Palad, Region 4 police director, commended Task Group “Emralino” composed by Quezon PPO, 415th PPMG, Candelaria Municipal Police Station, Quezon CIDG, Quezon NBI with the assistance of Batangas PPO for Ebora’s arrest

"May mga dati ng kaso yang si Ebora kaya lang nakalaya siya matapos hindi na itinuloy ng complainant ang kaso laban sa kanya,” Sarona said, adding that the suspect is a known assassin.

Emralino, a stalwart of the Lakas political party and former president of the Quezon Mayors’ League, was repeatedly shot by two gunmen while standing inside the Catholic Church compound to attend an installation ceremony of the Knights of Columbus in Barangay Poblacion around 10:30 a.m.

His two bodyguards, Freddie Acebron and Ramil Casilag were also shot but survived the ambush and are recuperating in a hospital here.
