Laguna candidate’s aide shot dead

With four days left before the national elections, another driver and close-in bodyguard of a local candidate was shot dead in Cabuyao, Laguna, early Wednesday.

Domingo Pampang died of a gunshot wound in the head after two men onboard a motorcycle shot him in front of his home, located some 30 meters from the highway in Barangay Banay-Banay at 6 a.m., Supt. Dante Novicio, Cabuyao police chief said over the phone.

Pampang was the driver and bodyguard of Cabuyao municipal councilor Jose “Tikboy” Lavina, a candidate for vice mayor in the May 10 polls.

Police said they were looking into “personal grudge” as a motive in the killing but they did not rule out the possibility that it was election-related.
