Transport strike tomorrow

Militant transport group Piston will stage a strike in Southern Tagalog tomorrow, May 3, to protest the overpricing of oil products and reiterate its demand to junk the Oil Deregulation Law.

Piston secretary general George San Mateo said selected routes in Laguna, Batangas and Cavite will be affected by the transport stoppage which will start at around 5 a.m. and end at 5 p.m.

San Mateo said their regional chapter, Southern Tagalog Transport Sector Organization, will be establishing mass action and strike centers in Binan, Canlalay, Sta. Rosa in Brgy. Tagapo complex, Balibago, Brgy. Dita Sala, Rotonda, Brgy. Pulo, Brgy. Mamatid in Cabuyao,Laguna.

Routes expected to be paralyzed by the strike are San Pablo City, Balay Hangin, Calauan and Pagsanjan, Sta. Cruz and Victoria in Sambat, San Miguel and Sto. Tomas in Batangas.

The strike is also to pressure the big oil players - Chevron, Shell and Petron - to implement a substantial cut in the prices of petroleum products during rollbacks.
