Noynoy steals show from LP partymate’s wedding

President-elect Benigno Simeon Aquino III stole the show during Saturday's wedding of Laguna 3rd District Rep. Maria Evita "Ivy" Arago and her groom Henry Gapit.

Upon arrival at the San Pablo Cathedral, Aquino was applauded by residents who waited for him outside the church heavily-guarded by a complement of the Presidential Security Group (PSG).

Aquino and his sister Aurora Corazon "Pinky" Aquino-Abellada served as wedding sponsors.

The occasion also turned into a mini-reunion for the Liberal Party (LP) as Aquino's running mate, losing vice presidential candidate Sen. Manuel Roxas II and Senator-elect Franklin Drilon were also among the sponsors as well as former Senator Joey Lina and Supreme Court Associate Justice Arturo Brion.

As the Aquino siblings marched toward the altar, people inside the church cheered and took snapshots of the President-elect, who got more than 14 million votes in the May 10 automated polls.

Aquino and Roxas sat beside each other during the mass.

The mass was officiated by His Excellency Bishop Leo Drona, Rev. Father Lino Benjamin Roda, and Rev. Father Noel Conopio. A heavy downpour did not discourage people outside the church who patiently waited for the end of the mass hoping to get another glimpse of the only son of the late President Corazon Aquino. A child was spotted asking for Aquino's yellow ribbon pin on his Barong Tagalog.

To which the President-elect happily obliged.

Asked for the nth time if he sees himself being wed in the near future, the 50-year-old bachelor Aquino said he always think about it when he attends weddings but he would have to defer it further now that he has been elected President of the Philippines.
