2 robbers slain in Laguna clash

THE Police Regional Office 4-A killed two motorcycle-riding gunmen believed to be engaged in gun-for-hire and robbery-holdup activities in Calabarzon region in a clash in Cabuyao, Laguna yesterday morning, PRO4-A director Chief Supt. Samuel D. Pagdilao, Jr. said.

Pagdilao said one of the fatalities was the suspected killer of Councilor Rodrigo Casas of Biñan, Laguna.
The two clashed with members of the PRO4-A Regional Public Safety Battalion and Laguna Provincial Police Office in Cabuyao past 3 a.m. yesterday.

Pagdilao said one of the fatalities, Ernante Hitape,is affiliated with a gun-for-hire group in Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon provinces. He said the suspects are connected with the Landicho-Asero Group whose modus operandi includes highway robbery, carnapping and drug trafficking.

Hitape was identified by one of the suspects arrested in the killing of Casas as the one who shot the official to death. The encounter came as RPSB agents received an information that the suspects were out to liquidate another official in Laguna.

The agents under Senior Supt. Edgardo de Leon were informed that the suspects on board a Honda XRM motorcycle were sighted in Barangay Looc, Calamba City and heading for Cabuyao.
The operatives put up checkpoints in Barangay Gulod which were ignored by the suspects at 3:45 a.m., triggering a shootout.

Pagdilao said the suspects were cornered on NIA Road in Barangay San Isidro.
