Laguna provides PNP with P6M worth of computers

A 20-minute gun-battle ensued after Army troopers clashed with communist rebels in Luisiana, Laguna, Sunday morning, an Army official said.

Members of the 1st Infantry Battalion were conducting an operation when they encountered around 10 New People’s Army rebels in Sitio Alima (a settlement), Barangay (village) San Buenaventura at around 9:15 a.m., said Lt. Col. Bartolome Bacarro, commanding officer of the 1st IB.

No one was hurt in the encounter and anti-government documents were recovered from the rebels.

Asked if the military operation had any connection with the recent capture of high-level NPA leader Tirso ‘Bart’ Alcantara, Bacarro said “we have recovered documents and we still have to determine (that).”

Police stations in Laguna were ordered to prepare against any possible attack and ambush on major roads by the NPA following the encounter.
