Woman hurt in Laguna fire--police

The joy and excitement in welcoming the new year turned gloomy after a resident was injured in a fire that razed three houses in San Pablo City, police said Saturday.

Police said that the fire erupted in General Luna Village shortly after midnight Saturday during the height of the New Year’s revelries.

Municipal Police Chief, Inspector Rolando R. Vasquez and his team led by Officer Mario S. David reported that the fire started when a Christmas Light of one of the three houses sparked and set the hanging curtain nearby on fire.

Police identified the lone victim as Aurelia Poblete Advento, one of the owners of the three buildings which were totally burned down. The two other adjacent houses which were razed to the ground were owned by Demetria P. Advento, 69 and Octavio Dando Reyes.

Advento was rushed to the nearby General Cailles Community Hospital in Pakil town where she was treated for first degree burns.

Police estimated damages to be worth P3 million.

The fire was finally controlled at about 1:45 am, said the police.
