The launching and inauguration of the Breastfeeding Station in Laguna was successfully held recently at the Atrium of SM City San Pablo spearheaded by the Provincial Health Office represented by Laguna Nutrition Officer, Juliet Mabbayad, in coordination with Nurturers of the Earth director, Dr. Nona Andaya-Castillo.

Nurturers of the Earth is a movement that promotes earth-friendly lifestyle and parenting.
The audience composed mainly of breastfeeding mothers and pregnant women were given free lectures on the benefits of breastfeeding; how working mothers can still breastfeed their young; and their benefits and privileges in accordance with Republic Act 10028 also known as the Expanded Breastfeeding Act of 2009 or the act stating that “all establishments must have its own lactation station for breastfeeding mothers.”

According to Dr. Castillo, SM built the first breastfeeding station in the country in 2006 at SM Megamall, three years ahead before the Breastfeeding Act of 2009 was ratified. The Breastfeeding Station at SM City-San Pablo is the 2nd in Laguna with the first being at SM City- Sta. Rosa. (CPG/PIA-Laguna)
