400 to attend Natural Family Planning seminar in Laguna

The Commission on Family Life in the Diocese of San Pablo, Laguna is expecting about 400 delegates from various parishes in the province to participate in a Natural Family Planning (NFP) seminar to acquire more skills, knowledge and practical applications pertaining to it.

Fr. Jerry Oblepias, Director of the Commission on Family Life, said several NFP experts in the country who will facilitate the seminar will tackle on the “best alternative in family planning which is safe and no cost involved” on July 3 at the newly constructed function hall in Del Remedio Parish, San Pablo City.

Oblepias said there are four kinds of NFP methods, namely: Basal Body Temperature Method, Sympto-thermal Method, Calendar/Rhythmn Method and Billings ovulation method.

He said, the resource speakers would also take up another family planning technique so-called Porsuelo Method which is dubbed as one of the best alternatives. This method is the combination of the Basal Body Temperature and Sympo Thermal Methods.

The director said Porsuelo Method was named after Mrs. Felicidad Porsuelo, one of the Philippine pioneers in natural family planning education. She and her late husband Eli first learned NFP in 1965 and started NFP charting since 1966.

Nanay Feling, as she is fondly called, hails from Bukidnon. She is a member of the Vatican’s Pontifical Council for the Faimly and was appointed by Blessed John Paul II to spread NFP. Drawing from scientifically proven natural methods, she and her husband developed, used and taught since 1973, what is now known as the Porsuelo Method.

Oblepias said he was inviting at least five (5) delegates per parish from the 83 parishes in the Diocese of San Pablo to be present at the NFP seminar. (Fr. Romy Ponte)
